Consumer Responsibilities

CONSUMER RESPONSIBILITIES
Basic Needs

Consumers have responsibility to use goods and/or services appropriately.  Consumers have furthers responsibility to take action to insure that basic needs are available.

Safety
Consumers have responsibility to read instructions and take precautions. Furthermore, consumers have responsibility to choose safe equipment, good and/or service and use and/or apply the same as instructed and teach safety measures to children.

Information
Consumers have responsibility to search out and use available information.  Similarly, Consumers have to take action to read and follow lebels and research before purchase of any good or service.

Choice
Consumers have responsibility to make informed and responsible choices.  Similarly, Consumers have responsibility to take action or resist high pressure sales and to make comparison before making choice of any good or service.

Representation
Consumers have responsibility to make their opinions known.  To take action to join an association such as the Consumer Council to make your voice heard and to encourage others to participate.

Redress
Consumers have responsibility to fight for the quality that should be provided.  Take action by complaining effectively and refusing to accept shoddy workmanship.

Consumer Education
Consumers have responsibility to take advantage of consumer opportunities.  Take action by attending seminars and workshops, work to ensure consumer education takes place in schools.

Healthy Environment
Consumers have responsibility to minimize environmental damage through making careful and/or critical choice and use of consumer goods and services.  Take action to reduce waste, to reuse products whenever possible and to recycle whenever possible.

Privacy
Consumers have responsibility to know how information will be used and to divulge personal information only when appropriate.
